Lecturer: Guest Professor Stephanie Specht M.F.A.
Imagine designing something that could be discovered by extraterrestrial beings in the distant future. In this project, you will create a message to be preserved in a time capsule, intended for discovery by unknown beings. You will typographically use numbers to represent the time capsule’s expiration date, making it both visually striking and meaningful. Your message will focus on a significant moment in history, capturing its essence and cultural significance through thoughtful design. Additionally, you will choose a strategic location to hide your time capsule, considering factors like accessibility, durability, and symbolism. Finally, you will plan a ceremony to commemorate the capsule’s burial, carefully designing the event and documenting the experience. This project challenges you to reflect on life on Earth from a graphic designer’s perspective, crafting a message that communicates our civilization’s story across time and space.
Freedom in results. The message can be shown in a booklet, a poster, a flag, a billboard, …
Benefits: Long work and typo nights with the other typo courses (Marcel Saidov, Florian Mecklenburg)
