This course introduces students to the fundamentals of screenwriting while integrating foreign language practice. Participants will develop storytelling skills and complete a short film screenplay in a foreign language, primarily English or German.

Interdisciplinarity // The course combines screenwriting with linguistic development, focusing on narrative structures, language expression, and translation between languages. Students will explore how storytelling elements adapt across different linguistic and cultural contexts, integrating insights from film studies, dramaturgy, and applied language learning.

Learning Objectives // By the end of the course, students will have acquired a foundational understanding of screenplay structure, character development, and scene composition. They will enhance their ability to craft compelling stories, express themselves effectively in a foreign language, and use screenwriting software to format scripts professionally.

Didactic Concept // The course follows a workshop-based approach with a mix of theoretical input, practical exercises, peer feedback, and instructor guidance. Students will engage in writing tasks, group discussions, and multiple rounds of script revision to refine their work.

Students will demonstrate their learning progress by completing a short film screenplay in a foreign language. Additional assessment components include loglines, synopses, and active participation in discussions and peer reviews.
