An artistic research workshop with Merlin Reichart
In the workshop, we explore the optical rhythms at the intersection of culture and nature. With the help of paint rollers and paper, we collect 2D impressions of surfaces in public spaces and compile the resulting material into an archive. Based on the discoveries, the students develop concepts for new artworks.
The workshop takes place in English, own contributions can be made in German.
About: Merlin Reichart is a multidisciplinary artist and curator based in Hamburg. His multimedia installations, sculptures and wall objects are informed by a diverse range of sources, from environmental discourse and political science to philosophy and sci-fi. Using humour and ambivalence as a strategy to engage diverse audiences, Reichart creates playfully subversive works that distil complex topics into accessible forms. Using a range of techniques and materials, including interactive and kinetic elements, Reichart presents a thought-provoking and, at times, unsettling interpretation of the present, urging viewers to confront the societal challenges we collectively face.
