Feminist criticism and Media Studies. This block-seminar will consist of three modules. In the first one we will discuss the present history of Feminist art. The focus will be on technology and representation of the contemporary female subject. Furthermore during this module we will discuss the terms: feminist art, female agencies, feminist aesthetic, vaginal iconography, and cultural definitions of art and obscenity. The second module will be devoted to Feminism and New Media. Here we will focus on the politics of gaze and how the representation of female body could be done, I will introduce the Feminist Media Studies Debate, talk about visual pleasure, female gaze, and digital based movements such as Cyberfeminism. Furthermore we will try do question the female/male dichotomy in arts and learn about the artists and writers who aim to transgress the notion of the artist’s body as such. The third module will be framed as an attempt to look at the Feminist arts outside of the Western stand point. Here we will talk about colonialism and decolonisation of feminist thought. Here our focus will be on art that addresses care, resistance, non-white bodies, and the politics of spectatorship. |
