Kafka2024 - Einzelansicht

”Went to the movies. Cried.” Franz Kafka who wrote this 1921 in his diary was fascinated by the ”restlessness of motion” of the movies. Some people even say that film determines Kafkaʼs unique narrative style and without his experiences in the cinema his work would be almost impossible to read. The work is probably one the most read originally in German and has been translated multiple ways into many languages. Kafka is still regarded as one of the most influential authors worldwide.

In this project module we will read and write and shoot and screen. At first we will experience the visionary world of Kafka and later this semester we will visit his neighborhood in Prague as part of a study excursion. The focus will be on movie making inspired by Kafka and his writings. We will also research his influence on contemporary cinematography. We will try to gain a panoramic perspective instead of the worn-out clichés of the subject. Filmmaking inspired by the imagery of Kafka's cosmos will be the aim of our project in Kafka’s anniversary year 2024.
